Artistic Achievements

I attend Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. In 2008 I was accepted for the visual cluster. I have taken a wide range of art classes, including printmaking, painting, sculpture, and photography. In 2009 I won third place for my sculpture in Scrap Can Be Beautiful. I am continuing my art education at Booker T. Washington and aspire to further my studies at an Art college.

Artist Statement

In my fruit concentration I incorporated various materials that would compliment and contrast the delicateness of fruits. Much of my art derives from nature and I am influenced by how various artists choose to portray nature. I am interested with interactive and functional media, such as light.

I view creating art as trial and error process. I rarely know what I’m going into when I begin a piece. I make decisions as opportunities for them arise. A piece usually transforms into something different than I initially intended. My work tends to be design oriented. I usually take inspiration from an object. I study it and find ways to recreate it in my eyes. For example, I may stylize, deconstruct, and contrast an object.
